“The Road Not Taken” by Rovert Frost : 歩むもののない道, ロバート・フロスト

好きな英語の詩があるので紹介します。

人生は選択の連続ですが、それをしっかり自分の中に意識して生きていこうと感じる詩です。

少しわかりづらいですが日本語の訳も後部にそのまま昔から訳されてるもので転載させて頂きます。







The road not taken
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　 


Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,


And sorry I could not travel both
　

And be one traveler, long I stood
　

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth;



Then took the other, as just as fair,


And having perhaps the better claim,


Because it was grassy and wanted wear;


Though as for that the passing there


Had worn them really about the same,



　

And both that morning equally lay
　

In leaves no step had trodden black.
　

Oh, I kept the first for another day!


　

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

　

I shall be telling this with a sigh


　

Somewhere ages and ages hence:


　

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by,

英語で簡単な解説を含め感想文を書いてみました。

If you were facing the two opportunities that have to be decided which to choose, how would you make your decision for them? You might want to take the one that seems easier for you to take because some people already had taken, or the one that would be tough for you because no one would not be willing to take. Comparing the two paths with a logical way much considering which one would may make more money might help you only in business situation, however in your life that kind of things would not work out at all. There is no objective way to value your decision in your life.

Rovert Frost makes me realize that every moment to make a decision in life is going to change the future. In the poem, after carefully considering both paths, he chooses the grassy one that seems no one had taken. After the choice he makes, in his mind, little bit of anxious remains while he is vaguely aware that he may never be able to go back to retake another one.

However, at the end of the line, the difference of the choice he made shows his confidence since he knows there is no way to compare how another result he did not choose would have been, which implies life is given only once for anyone. After the choice, all you can do is not to see the past behind you but to dedicate everything in front of you for your future as the time you spend in your best finally makes you perfectly decisive on what you did, just like Robert Frost in this poem.　

「歩む者のない道」



黄色い森の中で道が二つに分かれていた


　

残念だが両方の道を進むわけにはいかない
　

一人で旅する私は、長い間そこにたたずみ


　

一方の道の先を見透かそうとした


　

その先は折れ、草むらの中に消えている



　

それから、もう一方の道を歩み始めた


　

一見同じようだがこちらの方がよさそうだ


　

なぜならこちらは草ぼうぼうで


　

誰かが通るのを待っていたから


　

本当は二つとも同じようなものだったけれど



　

あの朝、二つの道は同じように見えた


　

枯葉の上には足跡一つ見えなかった


　

あっちの道はまたの機会にしよう！


　

でも、道が先へ先へとつながることを知る私は


　

再び同じ道に戻ってくることはないだろうと思っていた

　

いま深いためいきとともに私はこれを告げる


　

ずっとずっと昔
　森の中で道が二つに分かれていた。

そして私は…
　そして私は人があまり通っていない道を選んだ
